There's nothing on TV to watch anymore

Post by photomaster »

Thank-you, FIOS!

I used to watch The Spice Channel back in the 90's. Ever wonder if a purveyor of pornography like myself watches porn? yes, I do - but, only to study the lighting. LOL ok, I also like to make fun of the production and imagine what the photo shoot is like. I'll be watching a porn clip which has some lovely free domain music track as a lovely naked model spreads her legs and the camera zooms in on their crotch. I sit there and laugh my ass off.

The Playboy Channel has come and gone a few times. It used to be available for a monthly flat fee. I cancelled it because it was soooo lame. but, I got bored and wanted it back, only to discover that now it was on-demand only. Damn it. I waited a few years and once again it was available for a monthly fee. Then, Cablevision oversold their bandwidth in my apartment complex. I had connectivity problems and they cancelled The Food Network so I never knew if Emeril Lagasse won the Iron Chef competition. You know... never, never ever do I watch the Food Network until Emeril is in an Iron Chef contest and I thought, hey, this will be interesting. But, Cablevision deleted the channel that week over a dispute with the network.

Screw them. I switched to Verizon FIOS, which also added BBCAmerica so I can watch the latest Dr. Who episodes. For some reason I stopped watching... maybe it was because they quit airing them. But, they were back and started numbering their seasons from #1 again. The original series dates back to '63 (that's 1963) - and, yes, I've seem them all. I think that was Christopher Eccleston? Now they've got some woman saving the planet from floating piles of garbage out at sea and pointing out errors in history, like Nikola Tesla was more of an inventor than Edison - yes, we all know that by now.

I digress. I usually have PlayboyTV on in the background as I surf the net. There are fun shows with Babes doing things with guns, nice photography at MetArt, and that stoopid Playboy Morning Show which they're trying to market for radio. uh. Can't see those lovely nips over the radio. Despite a peaceful way to watch some softcore porn, and actually a bit of hardcore porn as well, FIOS has decided to delete PlayboyTV from their offerings and refund my money. Fuckers. I suppose if I switched to Dish Network I can tune in any fucking channel I want. But, this is the Internet. PornHub Premium is only $10 bucks. Even the price on kink.com has dropped a bit and includes a lot more than it used to. But, it's not live TV. I have keep clicking and casting.

Chromecast kinda works. Back in January, apparently, they were flooding my LAN with UDP discover packets. I wondered what all those flashing lights on the router were. Now that Google pushed an update, my devices occasionally don't show up. Shit, I've got an old AppleTV which never had these problems. I started to look for a platform to install PlayboyTV app to discover it is vanishing from all SmartTV's and boxes. I bought a used Nvidia Shield which has Chromecast built-in.

Google may have deleted Miracast but I can still stream to Plex using their desk app.. buuuuut, their desk app only works with 10.13+ and I'm still on 10.10 because I am not ready to loose three dozen 32bit apps; thank-you, people from Apple. I would plunk down serious coin for a Mac upgrade with some SSD drives IFF the damn system would run my apps. WHAT is the point of having an operating system which doesn't run apps?!

I'm back to the dark ages of 2010. I can SMB/AFP files to the NAS and stream them from Plex, at least. Although, I'm looking now at Castify which should be a global platform for all things cast-able - Miracast, Chromecast, AppleTV, and Roku. I haven't seen Roku do anything interesting in years, other than pushing paid content and movie rentals.

All this shit I have to go thru to make my TV display live TV again... and by TV I mean porn. Damn corporations have ruined the Internet by cleaning it up and now they're re-programming my TV so I can't even watch porn. Some are talking about the decline of DVD's? I think DVD's will make a come-back. Well, you should see my Synology Plex library. It would shock you! ha ha.
